Good morning,

Last week, I opened up about the moment burnout brought me to my breaking point — the wake-up call that changed everything.

Burnout isn’t just about feeling tired—it’s a slow drain on your emotional, mental, and physical well-being, leaving you running on empty.

And it doesn’t just wear you down—it distorts the way you see your work, your energy, and even yourself. You might feel disconnected, unmotivated, or cynical about things that once fueled you.

For me, the scariest part was realizing I no longer recognized the version of myself I had become.

But burnout isn’t one-size-fits-all. It wears different masks, showing up in ways you might not even recognize at first.

So the real question is—how is burnout showing up for you?

In my work with my clients over the years, I’ve seen burnout manifest in five common ways:

  1. You never chose this path: Your career just happened. One day turned into years, and now you feel stuck, as if you’ve landed in a life that doesn’t quite feel like your own.

  2. Work consumes your life: Work has swallowed up everything else. There’s no balance—just an endless cycle of deadlines, demands, and exhaustion, leaving little room for the life you actually want.

  3. The environment is toxic: Difficult colleagues, unrealistic expectations, or a draining workplace culture are taking a toll on your well-being. The stress feels inescapable.

  4. The work isn’t what you expected: You put in the work, chased the goal, and made it—but now that you're here, it’s not what you imagined. Instead of fulfillment, you feel disillusioned, unmotivated, and wondering if this was ever the right path.

  5. Success feels hollow: You’ve done everything right—earned the title, the salary, the accolades. But instead of satisfaction, there’s just an unshakable emptiness. I call this the hollow trophy—success that looks good on paper but feels meaningless in reality.

I personally lived through #3 and #5, and it took hitting a breaking point to see that something had to change.

Which of these burnout types feels most familiar to you?

Here’s what I know for sure: burnout isn’t a dead end. It’s a signal. A loud, flashing warning that something in your life or career is out of sync — and that you have the power to realign it.
